Abstract Paintings by David Holzinger
Eyes on Austrian artist David Holzinger.
David Holzinger’s interest in art and drawing came to life in 2010, which he used to do almost every day after school. Since 2010, his artistic ability and diversity increased significantly. When looking at his body of work from the past years, viewers may be able to explore a variety of influences such as certain details from street and urban art as well as hints of letters and cuttings from magazines and newspapers. Starting in 2015, the Austrian artist has experimented with different techniques of runnels, smeared paint and graphic set-pieces as well as traces of burning and work with ash. After this period of time, Holzinger started to work on more quiet pieces of bright, often monochrome tones, which have been combined with techniques of scratching, scraping, and tearing. These techniques remained in his artistic work until today. Please read more below the following image.
Over the course of several years, David Holzinger has experimented with different materials such as canvas and paper as well as acrylics and finally oil paints. In 2017, Holzinger’s artworks changed from bright colors to red and pink tones as well as basic colors like yellow and blue. In the most recent works, the artist increasingly worked with black, which is repeatedly counteracted with strong pink and ocher tones.
David Holzinger says about his work: “I see my works not really as oil on canvas, but far more as oil on a body. By cutting/tearing, scratching and stacking the separate layers on top of one another it feels more as if they are objects…”
